(13 Mar 2019) 'GREATEST SHOWMAN' SOUNDTRACK BEST SELLING ALBUM OF 2018
Hugh Jackman-fronted "The Greatest Showman" is still topping charts, over a year after it was first released in cinemas.
IFPI, the organisation that represents the recorded music industry worldwide, said Wednesday (13 MARCH 2019) that "The Greatest Showman: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (OST) was the best-selling album globally in 2018.
The musical film's soundtrack topped the charts in the U.K. for 28 non-consecutive weeks and reached multi-platinum status in both Britain and the U.S..
"This is Me," the album's lead single, charted in the top five in the U.K. and the top 10 in multiple other countries.
The IFPI Global Album Chart combines global sales of physical and digital albums to rank the best-selling albums of the year. The chart includes physical and digital album unit sales only.
South Korean boyband BTS took both the second and third chart positions with the albums "Love Youself: Answer" released in August 2018, and "Love Yourself: Tear" released in May 2018.
Other albums featured in the top 10 included the soundtrack to Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper movie "A Star Is Born," "Divide" by Ed Sheeran, and Pink's "Beautiful Trauma."
